How to Find Your Routine: A 4-Week Guided Protocol for PhytoRX

Authors: Dr. Abraham Benavides, M.D., and Harold Han, Ph.D.

In our first article, we explored a simple but important truth about plant medicine: phytoRX manifests different benefits for different people. One person finds relief from chronic pain. Another sleeps longer and deeper. Someone else notices their anxiety quieting down.

This is the nature of how cannabinoids interact with the human body. CBD and CBG work through your endocannabinoid system (ECS) and greater endocannabinoidome (eCBome). These are self-regulating networks that touch nearly every major function in your body, from inflammation to sleep to mood to immune response.

In addition to the manifestation of different benefits, cannabinoid-based plant medicine also requires a personalized pathway to get there. Unlike traditional pharmaceuticals, where the dose range is relatively narrow and the mechanism targets a specific receptor, cannabinoids like CBD and CBG interact with over 65 known molecular targets (Britch et al., 2022). The "right dose" depends on your body's unique biology, your condition, and your daily rhythm.

As with any cannabis or hemp product, predicting the best way to use phytoRX may be challenging for beginners. You have to build a relationship with the plant while listening to your body. And today, we will show you how.

What we built

Since launching phytoRX, we focused entirely on validation, not marketing. For the first nine months, we tracked what worked for our customers and what didn't. We studied where people got stuck, dropped off, and found their breakthrough.

Based on patient feedback and provider observations, we built a 4-week guided protocol. The goal is to make weekly adjustments based on how your body actually responds. We give the body the opportunity to adjust initially and adapt to the optimal doses.

Guiding Principles When Applying PhytoRX

Before we go into the details, we want to share some guiding principles when using phytoRX:

  • Start with one dose per day: Maintain this daily or at least four days per week.

  • Monitor your progress: Pay attention to your healing journey, noting how your sleep, stress, pain, and overall quality of life improve.

  • Increase gradually: Add only one dose at a time until you find your minimum effective dose—the lowest amount that gives you the support you need.

  • Adjust if needed: If you require more support to reach your ideal effect, you can increase to up to 6 doses per day (300 mg CBD + 150 mg CBG).

  • Split doses: You have the flexibility to split your daily doses (e.g., morning, afternoon, evening, or post-exercise).

Remember, if you have severe needs, take certain medications, encounter adverse effects, or are ever in doubt, it is highly encouraged that you contact your provider to run the plan by them first before proceeding and keep them posted.

Let’s take a look at the week-by-week plan with this guide!

Week 1: Prime the Body to Build Baseline

Your first week is about one thing only: building your routine.

Start by taking one dose of phytoRX every day. If sleep is your primary concern, take it in the evening, two to three hours before bed.

If your main symptoms involve daytime pain, inflammation, stress, recovery, or general wellness, then take it in the morning with your coffee, smoothie, breakfast, or beverage of choice first thing when you wake up.

One dose. Every day. For seven days.

You should not expect a dramatic result in Week 1. You are building a baseline. The endocannabinoid system needs consistent exposure before it begins to respond.

After Week 1, you should check in on how the main symptoms improve, like sleep and quality of life. The second week’s dosage is based on the first week’s outcome. The phytoRX team may assist you by tracking improvements with surveys and offering real-time suggestions.

Dr. Abe’s tip: Build the routine easily by keeping your dose right where you prepare your morning or evening beverage, such as next to your coffee maker, blender, water bottle, kitchen counter, or even in your bathroom next to your other medications as you get ready. Prioritize finding a time and place that works best and is easiest for you to remember.

Week 2: Adjust According to Your Response

This is where the protocol becomes personal.

Based on your Week 1 survey, we look at how your primary symptom, sleep quality and overall quality of life improve. The combination of those two signals tells us whether to hold your dose, add a dose, shift your timing, or in some cases, reset your approach entirely.

For example, if your symptoms are improving but your sleep is still poor, we might suggest adding an evening dose while keeping your morning dose the same. If sleep improves but other symptoms are still apparent, we would suggest you keep the evening dose but add one more dose in the morning for the next 7 days.

Dr. Abe’s tip: What makes this approach unusual in the consumer wellness space is that it mirrors dosing clinical practice — start conservative, measure the response, adjust based on data, and repeat. Most CBD brands skip every step after 'start.' This protocol doesn't. The phytoRX team also goes above and beyond this by following up with patients and providers, refining the techniques.

Week 3: Dial It In

By Week 3, the protocol simplifies. Your body has had two weeks of data and adjustments. You can tell whether you are responding, partially responding, or not responding.

If your symptoms are completely improved, you should hold exactly where you are. Don't add. Don't change.

If you are making progress but not all the way there, we suggest adding one more dose. Your body is close. It just needs a slightly stronger signal.

This is the week when many people find their threshold, the dose where their body finally crosses from "not yet" to "there."

Dr. Abe’s tip: you should also try timing the beverage within an hour of meals to enhance your absorption. Taking even a small snack or bite of food may help. If taste is an issue, try putting the dose in the fridge to mute the taste and better preserve the components.

Week 4: Freedom and Certification

For certain patients, if Week 3 still cannot get them there, they may require a higher CBD & CBG dosage. In this situation, we open the door to what we call the "freedom week."

Take 4 to 6 doses per day. Any time throughout the day. Morning, afternoon, evening — however feels right. We have seen patients build their own routine: 3 doses in the morning, 1 dose post-workout, and 1 dose for the evening. Your only job is to go higher and pay attention.

At the end of week 4, you will receive a final survey that compares where you are now to where you started on Day 0. Your symptoms. Your sleep. Your quality of life. Side by side.

If, after 4 weeks of consistent, guided process, your sleep, symptoms, and quality of life have not meaningfully improved, we pause, review, and help you understand what may be happening. This may be the right moment for a deeper clinician check-in: to review your condition, your routine, your dose, your timing, and whether phytoRX needs more time, a different dosing approach, or a different cannabinoid strategy.

For some people, CBD & CBG may not be enough on their own. For others, the issue may be timing, chronic digestion or absorption issues, consistency, severity of condition, or medication interaction. Our goal is to help you find the next best step.

Why This Guiding Process Matters Beyond PhytoRX

We built this protocol for our customers. But the problem it solves is not unique to phytoRX.

There is a quiet crisis in the hemp wellness industry. People buy CBD products with genuine hope. They try them for a day or even a week. They don't feel anything obvious. And they stop.

Without a clear protocol, people underdose, overdose, take it at the wrong time, use it inconsistently, or give up before their body has had enough exposure to respond. They conclude that CBD doesn't work when patients were not guided to find the optimal dose and routine.

Dr. Abe’s tip: from a clinical perspective, this mirrors a well-known problem in cannabis medicine. Patient adherence drops dramatically when people don't understand their regimen. This is true for pharmaceuticals, and it's even more true for plant-based compounds where the dosing isn't standardized, and the timeline to benefit is longer. The solution must include better personalized guidance."

Simply taking CBD or CBG alone without guidance does not truly help you. Instead, understanding how to use CBD & CBG — when to take it, how much to take, how to adjust, and when to stop — that is the key.
